The Gauteng Provincial Legislature has confirmed changes to portfolio committee leadership in announcements tabled on Friday 21 August.
Honourable Matshidiso Mfikoe has been appointed chairperson of the Economic Development Portfolio Committee, and Honourable N Mogobe has been appointed acting chairperson of the Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Portfolio Committee.
Both committees carry direct weight for the municipalities heading into the election: economic development oversees the province's township economy and job creation instruments, while CoGTA oversees municipal capacity, the very question voters will be answering in November.
Caucus has been asked to ensure that committee oversight visits are scheduled in municipalities where service delivery complaints are heaviest, and that findings are reported to affected communities rather than filed.
The movement is expected to announce its metro mayoral candidates within days — the last major party to do so — with President Cyril Ramaphosa set to launch the local government manifesto in Riverside, Diepsloot.
