Planned maintenance will cut supply to the inner city on Thursday 27 August and the Crown corridor on Wednesday 26 August. Branches are asked to circulate the schedule in ward WhatsApp groups.
City Power has scheduled a series of planned interruptions across Johannesburg for the coming week and has asked customers to reduce consumption, reporting that "the power system is constrained."
The Braamfontein switching station will be shut down for planned maintenance on Thursday 27 August from 08h30 to 16h30, affecting parts of the inner city including the Gautrain precinct and streets around Wolmarans and Smith Street.
A separate interruption at the Crown Substation is scheduled for Wednesday 26 August from 08h00 to 16h00, affecting Crown Wood, Theta Extension 7, Ormonde, Crown Mines, Nasrec, Soccer City, All Gold, Booysens Reserve and Aeroton. Work at the Goldev switching station in Lenasia, originally set for 14 August, was rescheduled to Friday 21 August.
City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena has said the programme targets ageing equipment: "Planned maintenance is critical in ensuring that ageing infrastructure is serviced, faulty equipment is identified and replaced, and the risk of unplanned outages is reduced."
Residents are warned to treat all supply points as live at all times, since "the supply may be restored at any time," and to unplug appliances to avoid damage when power returns. Load shedding remains suspended until further notice.
On the East Rand, Eskom has scheduled a ten-hour maintenance outage in Daveyton on Wednesday 26 August.
Branch secretaries are asked to circulate the outage schedule through ward WhatsApp groups by Monday evening, with particular attention to households running home-based businesses, dialysis equipment and refrigerated medication.
